This is not meant to be an empty promise. The goal is for every user to work in their native language — the system handles the rest by calling various AI translation services. Due to costs, we follow the "Lazytranslate" approach: the central languages (English / German) are pre-stored along with the original entry language. Translation then happens on access. Brief delays may therefore occur when accessing content in a new language for the first time.

Fundamentally, this platform was designed as a trading base. But since trading a small "salamander" for a "dinosaur" would neither be fair nor easy to understand, we introduced an internal currency for "value equalization". You earn Shares for uploading your models — and pay corresponding Shares to the Creator when downloading others' models. That's the rough overview. Details are specified on the next card.

Since 1998 I've been dabbling in CMS systems as a hobby — Joomla from version 1 to 6, WordPress, and many others. They all have one thing in common: standard use cases are covered easily. But when special requirements come along, options dry up — or costs skyrocket. From this grew the completely ridiculous idea of developing an independent, custom CMS for this site — because none of my familiar systems could meet even half of my requirements. What you're looking at right now is the result — with all its little quirks. 😅
Whatever you want to call our internal currency — by authoritative decree they are simply called SHARES. The basic principle: for every approved upload, you earn a certain number of Shares. These Shares can then be used for other downloads. That's the core idea of the whole community. But as always — no rule without exceptions.
To close the first troll gate, these Shares only become valid once a user actually downloads the model. This prevents users from uploading pointless content just to accumulate download Shares.
You cannot download your own uploads. One might think of downloading their own content to unlock upload points. Considering that you earn more Shares for an upload than for a download, this would indeed be an exploit — one that needs to be closed.
The following classifications exist:
One searches for a drawing or a 3D model of a specific vehicle for a part. This means a frustrating search through dozens of pages for 3D prints or CAD drawings on the internet. With 3DCarProjects, I want to build a completely new concept — a central meeting place where car & tuning enthusiasts, CAD enthusiasts, developers, thinkers, makers, as well as 3D printer fans and other parts producers can come together without friction losses. The focus should not only be on profit, but above all on the passion for one's own vehicles and the firm conviction of making the 'impossible possible'. We all who deal intensively with this field are something special. (As my wife likes to say: 'Metalhead man-children who never grow up.') But honestly, who really wants to grow up without having realized their 'car' dream. To me, and probably to you as well, it's clear that we could never really calculate the time and effort we invest in our parts. That's why I think it's extremely important that we support each other. From my own experience, I know: when I made one of my projects available on forum pages, files were downloaded immediately — by people who would never voluntarily share their own models. As a result, I stopped sharing anything. But that can't be the goal. I've invested a lot of time in this completely new project. Not only to build the pages, but especially to develop a procedure where both makers (who offer the models) and consumers (who download models) have the opportunity to exchange their know-how on fair terms. We're only at the very beginning of this journey and mistakes in the system are still quite normal 😉 But I'm still open to suggestions for improvement to this application. However, you can only give this as a registered user. No matter in what form you want to participate, sign up and become part of this new movement. Only together can we grow.

We regularly receive enquiries from abroad — members are looking for parts but are reluctant to go ahead with an order, and quite rightly so: if a component costs just a few euros but the shipping and customs charges amount to many times that, importing it directly simply isn’t worth it. I would therefore like to put an idea out there: would anyone be willing to take on such parts and forward them within their own country? On their own terms, of course! That would elegantly solve the customs and shipping problem and bring the community even closer together.

Be that as it may – this system has been developed from scratch, with no compromises! We deliberately chose not to use any existing CMS solutions and instead forged our own path. With the Community Shares system, we are breaking completely new ground – and that is precisely what makes this project so special. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes us! 🚀

Accessibility matters to us – which is why we're continuously working to make our website accessible for everyone. As a first step, we've introduced a new feature: You can now easily adjust the font size on all our pages to your preference. The + and − buttons can be found in the top right corner of every page. Click + to enlarge the text, click − to reduce it again.

News, tips and announcements about the platform will be published here. Makers and creators can share their experiences directly from the forum – about new printers, successful projects or interesting parts. Check back regularly!
